UK SOCIAL FIRM SECTOR INCREASES BY 10% IN 200707/03/2008The number of Social Firms in the UK rose by 10% in 2007 to a total of 151. The study of the sector was carried out by Social Firms UK for the third year running. In 2006 there were had 67 Social Firms and 70 emerging Social Firms totalling 137 businesses. In 2007 some enterprises closed, new ones came on stream and some firms that were emerging became fully fledged Social Firms. Says Social Firms UK Quality Support Manager, Kathy Baker, who carried out the study, "We found 151 enterprises operating in the Social Firm sector with the number of Social Firms increasing slightly to 71 whilst the number of emerging Social Firms increased by ten to 80. Overall the increase in the sector was a healthy 10.2%.
