Café Ciao

Cafe Ciao Logo

The Café Ciao business proposition is a healthy eating style cage based on the operation of a London based Social Firm called Café Nova Interchange. Its purpose is to develop a sustainable Social Firm that trains and employs disabled people.

Café Nova Interchange is a shopping centre coffee shop that opened in March 2001. It has been self-financing for the last two years, with an average weekly turnover of £3,500. Four full-time and two part-time staff are currently employed, 50 per cent of whom have disabilities. The business has a sales mix of 60 per cent take away and 40 per cent sit down. The margins in the business are sufficient to create a good supportive working environment, and from a licence perspective, the branding and image is extremely strong.

While the original Café Nova is based in the middle of Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre, it is recognised that there are other location opportunities for Café Ciao such as busy hospital sites, so while the proposition is fairly flexible its viability does depend entirely on footfall, so the location research is essential.

The licence agreement involves the initial purchase of know-how, brand name and imaging together with a start-up support package, but without an ongoing franchisor relationship.
